As Soar a Burning Sky’s author, I believe one must practice what one preaches, otherwise our words will ring hollow, or worse, become suspect, an extremely worrisome issue given the half-truths, exaggerations, and flat-out lies that permeate the tenor of our times. While I won’t go into carbon emission retention reports, the “true” nature of virgin wood fibers, or the press stresses upon certain kinds of publishing stock—all excuses for not using recycled paper—instead I’ll simply offer you a solution to my conundrum: whether or not to fell a tree, to print a book about saving trees (amongst other things)?

As you’ve noticed, my story appears digitally, daily, delivering its words as carbon-free as possible. Which is impossible—I know. There’s the power grid to consider; the manufacturing of equipment to view it on; the data storage issues; the miles of cable laid, etc. Regardless, the intention to be environmentally aware is there. But if you’re like me and need to hold a book in your hands in order to enjoy its story, I’m not only offering you a signed, first-edition printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper, but you can also order a sapling, indigenous to your region, to plant. In other words, a tree for a tree. 

Hopefully, in twenty years or so you can re-read all of Echoes of EonThera under the shade of an oak, or elm, or willow you once planted and now love—a relationship that will go on so long as the stars are required to shine. Until then, enjoy my first book.
